Cucumber Straight Eight Organic HEIRLOOM Seeds

Cucumber Straight Eight Organic HEIRLOOM Seeds

Cucumis sativus

Item #3035

63 days. There is nothing more refreshing than a cool cucumber. This older, open pollinated variety is still around because it is simply one of the best! Vigorous vines produce cylindrical, very straight crisp cucumbers about 8" long. Who can resist a salad of home-grown sliced cucumber, tomatoes and fresh mozzarella dressed with olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt and pepper? Yum!

This packet sows three 7-foot rows of trellised cucumbers.

Days to Emerge:
5-10 days

Seed Depth:
1/2"

Seed Spacing:
2 seeds every 12"

Row Spacing:
3'

Thinning:
When 3 leaves, thin to 1 plant every 12"

When to sow outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost, and when soil temperature is warm, at least 60°F.

When to start inside: 4 to 6 weeks before average last frost

Harvesting: Pick Straight Eight regularly at 8" long or smaller. Plants stop producing if there are overly mature cucumbers on the vine. Cut the stem rather than pulling at the fruit to break off. Once picked, immediately immerse in cold water to disperse “field heat,” which increases the quality and life of picked fruit.
